Dear Color Bearers,
We often receive questions regarding which benefits are not tax deductible. Please know that if you do not attend any Color Bearer events, your full donation is tax deductible.
The Trust is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. Our federal ID number is 54-1426643.
Event Attendees
If you attended events that are benefits of your membership level, below is a breakdown of your tax deductible donation.
2019 Color Bearers
If you plan to attend all events you are eligible for (Thank You Weekend (all Color Bearers); Annual Conference (all Color Bearers); Grand Review (Brigade and higher)), the following applies:
- Regimental: $1,000 annual gift ($700 deductible; $455 deductible/individual + guest)
- Brigade: $2,500 annual gift ($1,930 deductible; $1,360 deductible/individual + guest)
- Division: $5,000 annual gift ($3,855 deductible; $2,410 deductible/individual + guest)
- Corps: $10,000 annual gift ($8,855 deductible; $7,710 deductible/individual + guest)
- National: $25,000 annual gift ($23,855 deductible; $22,710 deductible/individual + guest)
If you attended only one or two of the events, here is a breakdown for each event:
- Color Bearer Thank You Weekend in 2017, $235/person that attended is not tax deductible.
- Annual conference Color Bearer tour and Author Dinner, $85/person that attended is not tax deductible.
- Grand Review, $250/person that attended is not tax deductible.
If you are Division and higher and attended the annual conference at no charge, $575/person who attended is not tax deductible.
2020 Color Bearers
If you plan to attend all events you are eligible for (Thank You Weekend (all Color Bearers);); Grand Review (Brigade and higher, plus Founding CBs)), the following applies:
- Regimental: $1,000 annual gift ($825 deductible; $650 deductible/individual + guest)
- Brigade: $2,500 annual gift ($1,925 deductible; $1,350 deductible/individual + guest)
- Division: $5,000 annual gift ($4,425 deductible; $3,850 deductible/individual + guest)
- Corps: $10,000 annual gift ($9,425 deductible; $8,850 deductible/individual + guest)
- National: $25,000 annual gift ($24,425 deductible; $23,850 deductible/individual + guest)
If you attend only one of the two events, here is a breakdown for each event:
- Color Bearer Thank You Weekend in 2020, $175/person that attends is not tax deductible.
- Grand Review and Fall Conference, $400/person that attends is not tax deductible.
IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) Donors
Please note that if you made your Color Bearer membership donation through your IRA QCD (qualified charitable distribution), IRS rules prohibit you from taking a tax deduction for your gift or receiving any membership benefits. If you plan to attend an event, please make a separate, additional contribution to cover the value of the event, as detailed above.
